Prairie Sky Breads takes root in downtown Minot
For the past half-decade, Prairie Sky Breads has been serving the people of Minot, but without its own brick-and-mortar location.
That changes this week.
The sounds and smells of fresh-baked bread are taking over Minot's downtown.
Locally-owned Prairie Sky Breads is debuting its very own storefront.
“It's been wonderful adventure, and something that we have been working towards for a very long time,” said Jazmine Schultz, co-owner.
The owners have worked their way up from a booth at the local farmers market, to a subscription service, to their current location.
“I think we were open to possibilities but the idea of being downtown was really appealing to us. We have a lot of friend's downtown here. There's just a culture here that we are excited about. So yeah, we looked elsewhere but downtown kind of is the spot for us,” said Schultz.
The bakery was able to purchase the storefront through years of saving and a Kickstarter campaign launched in 2018.
Those who supported the campaign could celebrate Wednesday at a soft open. Included on the menu: freshly-made bread, pastries and coffee.
“So I was actually a backer when they started their Kickstarter for this project. Their scones are one of my favorite things in the world. I'm so excited that they finally got here new location open and I cannot wait to be able to be here and have meetings here and enjoy the delicious things that they make,” said Chelsea Gleich, customer and campaign support.
The new location in the heart of downtown Minot means the Prairie sky crew can expand their business, their community outreach, and their menu.
“We've been doing this for five years now so I mean there's certainly, we've got, actually our big bread oven is just getting starting today. So there's definitely some learning curve here. It was pretty amazing this morning to sit in our space, the space we've been dreaming of for the past couple of years at least. And to realize that we finally arrived you know, that's a pretty special feeling,” said Travis Gerjets, co-owner.
Serving up a menu of local flavor in the heart of the Magic City.
Prairie Sky Breads is located at the corner of Central Avenue and 1st Street SE.
They will open the doors to the public Feb. 7.
