Police respond to incident in Williston

Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Williston police were contacted for a welfare check on a domestic issue between a woman and her husband.

Originally, police confirmed this was a hostage situation are clarifying that it was not.

Williston Police, McKenzie County Sheriffs and SWAT teams responded to the 3300 block of 11th Street West.

That area was blocked off during the incident but has since reopened.

At first, police could not make contact with either party but eventually they located the man and woman.

Eye-witnesses say the man had a gun.

Retreat Apartment residents nearby say they were asked by authorities to stay inside during the incident.

Authorities left the scene around 5 p.m.

Formal charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

Williston police say they don't feel there were any safety concerns to the public.
