EPPING, N.D. - The North Dakota Department of Health says a pipeline break caused about 170 barrels of produced water to spill Thursday about 2.5 miles southwest of Epping.

The pipeline was struck by a third-party contractor during trenching activities. It was reported the same day by the company that owns the pipeline, Polar Midstream, LLC.

The spill was contained in the trench, and the NDDoH says about 130 barrels have been recovered.
