BISMARCK, N.D. - Raising a child can be a challenge, but having a support system within your community could help make it easier.
Lutheran Social Services and other local organizations are relaunching the Parent Cafe, where families can get a free meal and learn about community resources at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Library.
The Parent Cafe is a national organization focused on strengthening families. It will relaunch Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m., continue every month and is free to all participants.
LSS says the Parent Cafe will also offer free child care. There will be guided conversations with the help of local organizations. LSS says if someone needs a translator, it will also provide that at no charge.
"It's really a time for parents to connect with other parents, build their support network, and just talk about things that sometimes families don't have a lot of time to talk through in their day to day lives," said Kathryn Dockter, family support specialist for healthy families under Lutheran Social Services.
Lutheran Social Services says it received a grant from the Consensus Council in Bismarck, which provides funding for supplies and transportation for clients.
Dates for the Parent Cafe at 5:30 p.m.:
