BISMARCK, N.D. - UPDATE: Here's an update from DK Orthodontics office about the Halloween candy collection for troops:
“We had a grand total of 780 pounds of candy in the Bismarck/Mandan areas and about 150 pounds of candy in the Dickinson area."
ORIGINAL STORY 11/6: A dental office in Bismarck is coming together with a dozen other offices across the state to collect Halloween candy for troops.
DK Orthodontics did a take-back event last year, collecting more than 200 pounds of candy. So far this year, it's taken in more than 500 pounds and that's not including the other dental offices participating.
The candy will be shipped to an organization called Operation Gratitude, in California, where it will be sorted and sent to troops around the world.
"But we've had over 500 pound donated and it just speaks to this community and how generous they are and how people can rally together to support something bigger than them," Daniel Keith, Owner of DK Orthodontics.
Keith says the idea started because the day after Halloween is usually busy for Orthodontic emergencies.
