WILISTON, N.D. - A spokesperson with the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed Thursday they are investigating a fatality last weekend on a well site in Williston.

OSHA says on May 18, Brigade Energy Services had just finished servicing a well and was reconnecting the polish rod when the top end of the rod fell, hitting a 34-year-old employee in the head.

OSHA says the polished rod weighs about 300 pounds and is about 40 feet long.

The spokesperson says OSHA has six months to complete its investigation and issue citations or propose penalties.

They say the last previously reported death in the oil and gas industry was in February 2018.
