The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency set a new record in 2018 for helping people buy their first homes.
The First Home program buys home loans and gives owners a lower interest rate than the bank offers. In 2018 they bought almost 1,800 loans with a value of more than $300,000,000.
"Just helps you get into the home sooner, and it leaves some saving in that person's account for those unexpected expenses of owning a home. You know, you've gotta buy a lawnmower, you've got to buy a snowblower, you might have a furnace that breaks down," said Jolene Kline, North Dakota Housing Finance Agency’s executive director.
In Burleigh County specifically they went from 230 in 2017 to about 320 in 2018.
