Rural police departments are using a new app to gather tips from the public.

The app is called North Central N.D. Tip 411 and is being used to make communication easier between law enforcement and those they serve.

Downloading and using the app is free.

It's available in the google play market and the app store.

Not only can you send in tips, but also receive alerts about bad weather, road conditions, school lockdowns, and city wide events.

“If we get more people coming forward to give tips, obviously it will benefit the department, which will benefit the city because then I can effectively and accurately identify the problem,” said Berthold police chief Al Schmidt.

Right now Berthold, Kenmare and Stanley police departments are connected through the app.
