Natalee’s Law passes unanimously on House floor
A bill advocating for change in the juvenile court system passes unanimously on the House floor.
HB 1520, also known as Natalee’s law, aims to shed a light on issues in the system. The rape story of 4-year-old Natalee was the inspiration for the bill.
Her mother Rosa Strubbe says the teen responsible for her daughters rape was sentenced to probation and therapy. She believes it wasn’t enough.
Although their case is closed, Strubbe says she wants to see a change in the system for others going through the same thing.
Last Wednesday the House Judiciary Committee heard testimony from the Strubbe’s and many other victims.
Natalee’s law pushes for more access to court documents for parents of victims involved in a case as long as they don’t share the information anywhere, stiffer sentencing and offering services and help to families of victims and perpetrators.
