Narrow road regulation passes Bismarck City Commission unanimously

Regulation for narrower roads passed the Bismarck City Commission unanimously Tuesday.

Lawmakers say this could lower costs for homeowners and cut back speeding in residential areas. They hope this will also make the streets safer for pedestrians.

"There's been a fair amount of research to suggest that narrowing the traveled way has benefit on calming traffic, or slowing it down," said Community Development Director Ben Ehreth.

The ordinance would not effect existing roadways through the city.
