ND governor, lieutenant governor visit Watford City to assess tornado damage

WATFORD CITY, N.D. - Gov. Doug Burgum and Lt. Gov Brent Sanford were in Watford City assessing the damage left by the 127 mph tornado Tuesday.

Burgum says he wanted to talk to the victims and formulate a game plan with city leaders.

"Unfortunately when you have issues like this when of the things you uncover is gaps in the system. And one of the things we're already discussing is that there is a bit of a radar shadow along the border of Montana and North Dakota. Certainly Lt. Governor and myself will be looking into what it takes to make sure that we have state of the art capability," said Burgum.

Burgum says it's important to assure the safety of people.

Sanford and Burgum say the National Guard is ready if needed.
