ND, Tribal Nations receive $500,000 child support enforcement grant

North Dakota and Tribal Nations are receiving a $500,000 federal grant to improve the state's child support enforcement.

The state's Child Support Division and the Three Affiliated Tribes' Division of Child Support Enforcement will use the funds to improve inter-governmental child support cases, which make up 25 percent of cases in North Dakota.

Part of the grant will fund an analysis into the case referral and transfer process between the Three Affiliated Tribes and the state.

MHA Nation Chairman Mark Fox said, "This would mark a great improvement in the system, as our Native American children would benefit from being able to receive the support they need, should a parent live on or off the reservation."
