BISMARCK, N.D. - A North Dakota senate bill that would give $45 million to the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University for research has passed by a vote of 43-4.

Senate bill 2282 would set a maximum of $45 million to go to a research pool split between the two universities.

Both university presidents support the proposal, saying there will be a "veracious appetite" for the money, but they'll need results in two years.

The bill will now go to the House to be voted on.
