ND Public Service Commission approves wind farm project near Tioga

TIOGA, N.D. - More than a hundred new wind turbines could tower over the landscape northwest of Tioga by the end of next year.

The Aurora Wind Project is expected to provide up to 300 MW of power.

The Public Service Commission approved the project today but did bring up one issue.

"Using up 44,000 acres of land for a hundred and twenty one turbines, that's more than half a section of land for every single turbine," said Randy Christmann, Commissioner.

"This in many ways is an extension of an existing project and as was mentioned the support for the project is strong," said Chairman Brian Kroshus.

The project is estimated to cost more than $300 million.
