The North Dakota Petroleum Council is trying to compile a first of its kind history of the effects of oil and gas production in the state.

The project will take three years and the council is asking for nearly $300,000 from the industrial commission to do it. Stories will be told in podcasts, articles and even short documentaries.

“There’s value in knowing where things come from and where we're going. So contributing that and being able to use it for education. It's part of North Dakota history and we want students and everyone to have access to that story,” said Kristen Hamman with the petroleum council.

According to the project proposal, 12 videos and 52 articles will be produced in the first year.
