The North Dakota Public Service Commission has approved the expansion of the Dakota Access Pipeline in the state.
State regulators approved the expansion Wednesday in a 3-0 vote.
The expansion involves adding a pump station in Emmons County.
Energy Transfer Partners, the company behind the pipeline, still needs approval in Iowa and Illinois to add pump stations.
If those permits are approved the expansion will double its capacity to more than 1 million barrels of oil per day.
