ROLLA, N.D. – A Rolette man awaiting trial for murder in Rolette County now faces a charge of possessing a weapon in a correctional facility.
According to court records, prosecutors filed the B-felony charge against 50-year-old Ronald Wootan Wednesday.
In the complaint, Sheriff Nathan Gustafson says Wootan was found with “a weapon assembled out of a razor blade and other parts” on Aug. 27.
Wootan will stand trial in February in the July 2018 shooting death of 26-year-old James “Joe” Pochant. He’s also accused of firing at a SWAT truck before being apprehended.
In August, the courts ordered a neuropsychological exam for Wootan.
Wootan will make an initial appearance on the weapons charge Sept. 23.
