MORTON COUNTY, N.D. - The Morton County Sheriff's Office is working toward putting a student resource officer in six county schools.
Discussions are beginning between the department and the rural schools to see how this plan would look. The idea would be for a deputy to spend their week providing services to each of the schools. This might affect the current agreement between Mandan and the department.
"2020 will still remain as it has been in the past, and that'll give us an opportunity to sit down not only with the schools, but also with the Mandan Police Department and just look at the future of all of this and put it together for the benefit of everybody," said Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier, Morton County.
The sheriff hopes that they can access some federal funding to provide this layer of protection for the children of Morton County.
