The Economic Development Department cannot disclose the specific names of the businesses they are currently talking with, but say they hope to see new development soon.
Shawn Wenko, the Executive Director for the Economic Development Department, says most difficult part of trying to get more restaurants and retailers here is that the city tends to be considered rural, but they estimate that around 80 to 85 thousand people are getting their goods and services from Williston.
He says, "That's been a hard sell for us to sell to some of the restaurants and retails out there because it's not a solid, tangible number that we can put down on paper."
Wenko says that the progression is a lot slower than they'd like, but the important thing to note is that these retail and food-service entities are very interested in planting locations in the city.
"The last 10 years we grew so quickly as a community, and now we are in this phase of really catching up to adding things that make a community a community,” states Wenko
The Economic Development Department says they will continue to push for the more businesses to enter into Williston’s market.
