Mondak Animal Rescue holding shoe drive for new building

Mondak Animal Rescue in Williston is having a shoe drive to raise funds for a new building. Shoes for Shelters will also give back to the community with helping those in need. Jemeisha Lyde has more.

Shoes for Shelters gives organizers the time to bond with their furry friends while raising money for a new home. "It's always been a goal of Mondak Animal Rescue to eventually have that fully functioning brick and mortar building.

"We were lucky enough to get a donation to make this building possible," says Kit Hernandez, Mondak Animal Rescue Manager.

With only a month left, the animal rescue is wasting no time collecting bags of shoes. They have a long way to go, but they are hopeful these old shoes can turn into a new beginning.

"We probably have about 15 bags of 25 pairs each. Our goal is to get 100 bags totaling 2,500 shoes," says Hernandez.

So far, Funds2Orgs has been a big help raising donations for the shelter. Though building a new facility is just one of the goals, ending poverty is another. "Six hundred million shoes are thrown away discarded every year in the United States alone.

"They saw that as a problem and the solution is for non-profit like ourselves to receive those donated shoes," says Hernandez.

While helping to reduce poverty and finding more space for stray animals, the shelter can truly say it is paying it forward.

Mondak's fill the truck event will be held this Saturday at the shelter from 9am to 12pm
