BISMARCK, ND - Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center has broken ground on a new building project.
Management says the second facility will help provide better assistance to current and future residents.
Missouri Slope is currently working on bringing its North Campus to life on the intersection of North Washington Street and Medora Avenue in Bismarck.
The purpose of the project is to take some of the pressure off the current facility. In addition, Care Center management says the community has a long term shortage of care and independent living options for seniors.
"We exist to meet the needs of the community, and what we see is those long term needs exploding when it gets into the mid-2020s. So, we're really trying to prepare for that," says CEO and President Reier Thompson.
Construction for the north center can be broken down into three phases.
The first phase will provide 192 nursing beds for those requiring skilled care.It will also include construction for a town center main entrance area. This stage is set to be complete between July and October of 2021.
The second phase will provide 130 nursing beds for residents requiring basic care. Plans to break ground are set between 2021 and 2022.
The third phase will provide 60 apartment style units for independent living residents. Plans to break ground are set between 2023 and 2024.
The more than $100,000,000 project will be financed through loans, bonds, and fundraising.
Upgrades at the center will include dining rooms on each floor and in each household, nursing stations closer to resident rooms, and ceiling lifts in each room.
There are also future plans to install a transitional care and rehabilitation unit with a hydrotherapy pool.
"The response time for everybody will be much shorter, which will naturally improve overall quality, overall satisfaction for everybody that lives there," Thompson explains.
Once this project is complete, Thompson says they plan to renovate the current facility.
Missouri Slope will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony on October 16th at 10 a.m. at the construction site of the north campus.
