WILLISTON, N.D. - The winner of last year's Miss North Dakota pageant went on to take the Miss America 2018 title, and as Cara Mund’s reign comes to a close, a newly crowned Miss North Dakota looks to make her own mark come September.

Miss North Dakota 2018 Katie Olson received a Williston send-off as she prepares for her trip to the Miss America competition.

Preliminary competitions begin Aug. 28 in Atlantic City.

Olsen will compete against 50 other national finalists for the coveted crown currently held by former Miss North Dakota 2017 Cara Mund.

Katie talked about her preparations over the past couple of months, including keeping up on current events, practicing her walk and keeping fit.

Olsen will be a part of the last Miss America competition featuring a swimsuit portion.

Tuesday night well-wishers enjoyed some cake and a silent auction to help raise funds for Olsen’s travel and competition expenses. You can watch her represent North Dakota in the Miss America 2019 competition Sunday, Sept. 9.
