Minot woman identified in Fort Ransom drowning

FORT RANSOM, N.D. - A Minot woman has been identified as the victim in a drowning on the Sheyenne River in Fort Ransom Saturday.

The Ransom County sheriff says they received a report of a kayak tipped over shortly after 1:30 p.m. with two people in the river.

Divers rescued 33-year-old Jeremy Finch and took him to the hospital.

They found 26-year-old Nora Bailey and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Finch says Bailey swam toward him in an apparent attempt to try to rescue him when she was swept away.

The incident remains under investigation.
