MINOT, N.D. - Establishments in Minot that serve alcohol would be allowed to serve on Thanksgiving Day, under a city law change approved by the City Council Monday night.
As it stands, there is no state law banning businesses from serving alcohol on Thanksgiving Day, though a city ordinance remains in place banning such sales on both Thanksgiving Day and Easter Sunday.
The council unanimously approved the motion to adjust the law to allow sales on Thanksgiving Day, but not Easter.
Some aldermen suggested the issue would prompt further discussion about expanding the city’s laws on closing time from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The motion still needs to go through second reading on Mon., Nov. 18, roughly two weeks before the holiday.
