Minot teacher impasse continues, talks resume later this week

MINOT, N.D. – Discussion between the Minot Public School board and the district’s teachers will continue Friday afternoon after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement Wednesday in the ongoing impasse over the teacher’s contracts.

The board voted Wednesday morning to accept recommendations from a fact-finding commission that included a set pay raise, along with the creation of a ‘catastrophic leave time bank,’ which would let the teachers take leave if their child needed care from a serious illness or accident.

The teachers, however, expressed concern over the scope of who applies to the time bank, noting that some children still carry their parent’s health insurance past the age of 21. They also questioned having to share personal issues in a public forum.

The two sides will meet again at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
