UPDATE--Minot police investigating homicide

MINOT, N.D. - 5:30 P.M. UPDATE--Minot Police are investigating after a man died following a shooting Sunday morning on the city's northwest side.

Just after 6:00 a.m. officers responded to a report of gunfire near 13th Street and 11th Avenue NW.

Moments after arriving to the scene, dispatch alerted them of a crash near the Minot State University Dome.

Reports released by Minot PD state that the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man was shot and taken to the hospital where he pronounced dead.

Earlier in the day, Minot Police officers were spotted searching this neighborhood with metal detectors for evidence.

Your News Leader spoke with a nearby resident, who said they heard the shots as they were getting ready for the day.

“We heard quite a few loud noises we didn't know if it backfired from a car or something else so we got up and started checking around,” said Roger Welsh, who lives nearby.

Welsh said police arrived within only a few minutes of the shots. They have no one in custody at this time but say the incident was isolated, and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Police are asking those living nearby to see if they have any surveillance footage of the shooting or any passing vehicles.

1:10 P.M. UPDATE--Minot Police say a 29-year-old man is the victim in a Sunday morning homicide investigation, and at this time there are no suspects in custody, but it is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Police say shortly after 6 a.m. they responded to the area of 13th Street and 11th Avenue NW for a report of gunshots. Shortly thereafter, dispatch received a report of a vehicle accident near the MSU Dome. Investigators learned the driver had been shot. The victim was transported to Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are asking that residents living near the area check security cameras for video of the shooting or of vehicles that may have been passing through at the time. Anyone with information should contact Minot Police at (701) 852-0111 or submit tips to the link attached to this page.
