Students from Jim Hill Middle school in Minot played a few songs for Governor Burgum and other elected officials today as they take over as the 2019 Governor's band.

Director Leslie Barney says the kids were jumping with excitement when they found out about the award in March. She says the kids were cool under pressure, even though she was a little nervous. After the kids played a few selections, Barney gave the 7th and 8th grade students and staff all the praise.

“They're hard working kids. They've been working on this project for a long time and the other teachers have worked with also have been helping with them,” said Barney.

The Governor's chorus this year was the Leeds Banner Girls Chorus, made up of 11 girls from grades 7 through 12. Since the chorus was formed in 1994, they've preformed at events in Washington D.C., Mount Vernon and Mount Rushmore.
