Educators from across the Peace Garden State will gather in Jamestown for the Governor's Summit on Innovative Education.

Sunnyside Elementary teacher Sara Medalen is headed there to collaborate with other educators from around the state.
Medalen was recognized as the Minot Teacher of the Year in 2018 thanks in part to her ability to engage students with programs like Books and Braids, Girl Power and, Elf on the Shelf.
She says that this year's summit will have a focus on behavioral health.

“Our first and foremost thing that we have to do is create relationships for these kids. We have to make them feel so safe in these schools, and so cared for, and loved that now--then we can teach them,” said Sunnyside Elementary reading and math interventionist Sara Medalen.

The summit takes place over the course of two days starting Aug. 14th.
