MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. - An airman from Minot Air Force has received the Bronze Star Medal for his work during deployment to the Middle East.
Master Sgt. Philip McAlpin, a Heavy Repair Superintendent from Minot Air Force Base received the medal for meritorious achievement while deployed in Syria.
McAlpin and his team were responsible for maintenance and repair of the landing zone. At the start of his deployment the job took anywhere from 12 to 16 hours to complete.
McAlpin found ways to help his airmen work better and more efficiently by changing the way aircraft landed, how to treat the landing zone during a rain storm and more.
All of these efforts cut their time working on the landing zone down to three to four hours.
