Minot State hosts Red Berry Woman Fashion Show, conclude Native American Culture Celebration

Minot State closed out their Native American Cultural Celebration in style by hosting the Red Berry Woman Fashion Show.

Models wearing designs from Norma Baker-Flying Horse, a member of the MHA Nation, made their way down the runway in the North West Arts Center.

Baker-Flying Horse was the first contemporary Native American fashion designer to have one of her gowns worn at the Oscars.

With Native American culture often being appropriated in modern fashion, one of the models said it feels good to wear a dress made by a Native American designer like Baker-Flying Horse.

“You know, the thought process behind the outfit, the designs that went into it were all crafted in a way that has a rich meaning and history to our people, and so that just makes it more special as opposed to being something with 'tribal print' or 'moccasins',” said Sanoah Larocque, model.
