Minot Police investigating online school shooting threat

MINOT, N.D. – Minot Police say they are investigating a social media-based threat referencing a school shooting.

Police say the person threatening to carry out the shooting did not name a specific school, but they say a separate person talking to the person who made the threat mentioned Central Campus in Minot.

Police say there is no confirmation that Central Campus was the target if this was carried out. They also say they do not think there is an increased threat to the safety of students or staff, but there is an extra police presence at the school Thursday.

Police are working with other law enforcement agencies to track down the source of the threat, and plan to file charges if they identify the source.

Parents of students received a message from the school district Thursday morning about a threat that ‘"may or may not have been directed at Central Campus High School."

The message also indicated that the suspect does not reside in Minot.

A school administrator said a few parents had withdrawn their kids from school, but the day was going on as usual.

This is the second threat connected to the school in the past month.

“ASI Alerts: Last night, we were made aware of a threat made to shoot up a school, and the threat may or may not have been directed at Central Campus High School. The Minot Police Department have been working on the issue. The suspect in this case does not reside in Minot. As an extra precaution, we will have additional police presence at Central Campus.”
