WASHINGTON, D.C. - A Minot High School alumnus has been sworn in as the next U.S. ambassador to Bulgaria.

Herro Mustafa was born in Iraq in 1973, though her family came to the United States three years later to seek asylum.

She graduated from Minot High School in 1991, and has degrees from Georgetown and Princeton.

Mustafa has held various foreign affairs positions, both in Washington and overseas.

The Trump administration nominated her in June, and the Senate unanimously approved her nomination in September.

She replaces Eric Rubin.
