MINOT, N.D. - The Minot Fire Department is looking to hire some new firefighters. After a couple resignations and a retirement, three spots have opened up throughout the department.
"Trained, maintained and ready" is the slogan on every one of the Minot Fire Department trucks. You too can be a part of the team behind it, throwing on your gear and being ready to go in a moment's notice. The department is looking to hire three new recruits.
"We are trying to get people to apply so we can test a good number of recruits. If our numbers are down we don't get the cream of the crop,” said Austin Burns the Training Captain for the Minot Fire Department.
Burns said the department is hoping for several dozen applicants. They are only requiring that you have a high school diploma, a valid ID, and are at least 18 years old.
"Our requirements our down meaning we will get more numbers to apply. I think the perception is that we need a fire degree and you need special training but we will do that in house. Do not be afraid to apply if you don't have the special fire training,” said Burns.
Burns said it is not only a rewarding job but a fun one, too.
"Well number one is serving your community but number two is working with the personnel on shift. You know you show up and work with your friends every day. I can't say that I have actually come to work one day in my life because I love coming here,” said Burns.
Getting the chance to serve and help the Minot community.
The selection process is broken up into three components. Each is designed to measure the applications ability to fulfill the firefighter job duties.
First, candidates will take a written exam, then a physical agility test, and finally two oral interviews. Applications are due this Thursday Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. For more information on how to apply visit our website.
