BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Catholic leaders are reacting to the fire that ravaged the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, Monday.
Fr. Jadyn Nelson, the President of Bishop Ryan Catholic School, was in Bismarck Monday for the Chrism mass, though he took some time to comment on the historical significance of the cathedral.
“Well it's profoundly important, not only for the French but for Catholics, for Christians around the world, because it's a kind of theological statement. it's a statement of faith. I've been pondering that question a little bit this afternoon as I've been watching the pictures on the tv, just thinking about the historical importance of that building, what it's seen, so to speak, over the course of the over eight centuries that it's been an icon of the public life in Paris,” said Nelson.
Nelson said he has been to the cathedral twice.
