Military appreciation lunch ahead of Veteran’s Day

A full Thanksgiving meal was offered Thursday for veterans and current military members.

This is the eighth year local businesses have gotten together to offer up the free lunch for those who've served. First responders are also offered a free ticket for the event. The Elks Lodge started prepping for all the food a week ago, and made 50 24-pound turkeys to serve up.

“We just appreciate what they've done for us over the years and to see these smiles on these people’s faces, the vets, the active people, it's just a pleasure it really is,” Steve Schwan with Schawn Buick GMC Cadillac said.

Schwan says they started with about 300 meals the first year, and expected to serve about 1,500 this year.
