MINOT, N.D. - The opioid epidemic takes a toll on communities far and wide.
People from the Minot area gathered Thursday to learn how to safely use opiates prescribed to them, and limit their chances of addiction.
The Minot Housing Authority hosted a one-hour training addressing opioid misuse, risk factors and addiction prevention methods.
The training wasn't just for those who've been prescribed the drugs in the past, but also teachers, service providers, social workers and even employers.
“It's great when its prescribed appropriately and it's used appropriately, but we know often times what happens is people have leftover pills and they fall into people's hands that end up misusing them,” said Holly Arnold, NDSU Extension parent educator.
Information was gathered in collaboration with North Dakota State and South Dakota State Universities.
