UPDATE: Authorities release names of the two people involved in McKenzie County crash

MCKENZIE COUNTY, N.D. - UPDATE (6-8-19): Authorities have released the names of the two people involved in a two-vehicle crash near Watford City Friday morning.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says they are 24-year-old Natasha Skala, a McKenzie County Sheriff's Deputy, and 57-year-old Michael Gritzan of Sidney, Mont.


ORIGINAL STORY (6-7-19): The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was airlifted to Bismarck after her patrol car was struck and started on fire near Watford City Friday morning.

A 24-year-old female deputy with the Sheriff’s Office was stopped on Hwy 1806 two miles north of Watford City, awaiting a left turn when a Kenworth semi struck the deputy’s vehicle from behind.

The patrol car started on fire and was engulfed in flames when the female deputy was extricated. She was then airlifted to Bismarck.

The driver of the semi is a 57-year-old male from Sidney, Mont., charges for the driver are pending.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
