WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a northwestern North Dakota sheriff’s deputy was injured during a vehicle pursuit when his squad car struck a deer.
The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Watford City about 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Deputy Robert Shipp was chasing a white Chevrolet Camaro that had fled a traffic stop on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation earlier in the day when Shipp hit the deer with the front center of his vehicle.
Shipp suffered minor injuries. Authorities say the deputy was wearing his seatbelt and his air bag deployed.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the occupants of the Camaro were Tyler Defoe, of Watford City, and Candice Clark, of Fairview. Clark is also wanted on an outstanding warrant. They remain at large.
