MANDAN, N.D. - Mandan is replacing the roads through the core of downtown for the first time in more than 30 years.
It includes a stretch of 1st Street NW from Collins Avenue through 4th Avenue. Also slated for replacement are sections of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th avenue. The city plans to replace streets, sidewalks, and water-mains in the construction zone. The estimated cost is $6 million.
"Any mill and overlay project type project or chip seal project just isn't going to cut it they're too far gone. The cracks are all the way through and they're so prevalent that a reconstruct is necessary," said Justin Froseth, city engineer.
The city accepted an urban development grant on Tuesday to help pay for about $2.4 million of the project.
