BISMARCK, ND - Mandan Public Schools are receiving national recognition for their outstanding commitment to music education.

The schools have been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education, a designation from the National Association of Music Merchants.

Mandan Public Schools students have struck the perfect chord...

"The program is amazing. They just don't give up on you ever. They push you to be your best," says Rylie Schick, 8th grader at Mandan Middle School.

The schools have received national recognition from NAMM due to their outstanding efforts in providing music access and education to all students.

"The teachers are amazing. The students are also really well behaved in the music group," says Shaydin Ell, an 8th grade student at Mandan Middle School.

The music programs were graded on class participation, facilities, and support for music programs, among other categories.
Jean Dunn-Gefroh, Mandan Middle School Vocal Instructor of Choirs, says Mandan has had a rich history of music programs for a long time. She says her favorite part of the job is...

"The kids. I mean I get to sing every day. I get to sing every day with a bunch of wonderful eager kids. It's middle school and everyone knows what that's like, but it can be the most energizing thing you could ever believe," Dunn-Gefroh explains.

Above all, the students and Mrs. Dunn-Gefroh say their passion for music is what sets them apart.

The recognition goes to all music departments of every public school in Mandan.
