A Garrison man was arrested around early Tuesday morning for setting fires at the Radisson hotel.

Bismarck police say 35 year old Nicolas Yellowbird started a fire in three different places inside the lobby restroom at the Radisson Hotel in Bismarck.

Police arrived to the hotel at 3:28 a.m. Tuesday and detected a smell of burning paper coming from the men’s restroom.

When officers opened the door the smoke billowed out and they asked the man, who they later identified as Nicolas Yellowbird, to come out but he refused.

BPD says the officer wasn’t able to safely go into the bathroom.

Police say Yellowbird eventually came out with his hands in the air and with a lighter.

Officers say the fire came from three different locations, a toilet paper roll by the door, a spot in the middle of the bathroom floor and a garbage can by the sink.

According to Sgt. Mark Buschena with the Bismarck Police Department the Radisson had 128 rooms rented out at the time of the fire.

Officers arrested Yellowbird for endangering by fire or explosion.
