Man arrested for breaking into police department impound lot

BISMARCK, N.D. - A Mandan man was arrested by Bismarck Police Tuesday morning after he broke into their impound lot.

The BPD public information officer, Luke Gardiner, says 34-year-old Joshua Schmidt is accused of breaking into the impound lot on north 52nd street.

Officers say Schmidt was found with several bags scattered throughout the lot.

Gardiner says they first noticed somebody was cutting the fence on April 25. He says they have been doing extra patrolling by the lot and caught Schmidt and arrested him.

Court records show Schmidt was charged Tuesday afternoon with a general charge.

A judge set his bond at $1,000 in cash and must remain in the area of Burleigh and Morton county.
