MINOT, N.D. – Veteran MLB umpire and Minot native Gary Cederstrom is retiring, according to the sports website closecallsports.com.
Cederstrom worked as an MLB umpire for 31 years, officiating more than 3,500 games, and four World Series, including the 2019 Fall Classic between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros.
He worked his way up the Minor Leagues before making his Major League debut in 1989.
Cederstrom attended Minot High School and graduated from Minot State University in 1973.
Cederstrom is an avid NDSU Bison fan, and he returns to North Dakota often to hunt and fish.
He returned to Minot in 2016 to serve as the Grand Marshal of the North Dakota State parade.
