Minot City Council Vice President Lisa Olson became the first woman in the history of Minot to preside over a regular city council meeting Monday.

Olson, who was first elected to the council in 2010, has advocated for having a female presence in local politics in Minot, saying it’s an often underrepresented part of the Minot community.

Minot Mayor Shaun Sipma, who typically presides over meetings, is in Norway with City Manager Tom Barry. City Council President Mark Jantzer is out of town. That means the role of leading Monday’s meeting went to Olson.
