Lincoln Police Chief removed from position

Your News Leader has confirmed Lincoln Police Chief Greg Leveling was removed from his position.

Leveling says he doesn’t have a comment at this time, but said he denies any negative claims from city officials. Those claims are unknown at this time.

Lincoln Mayor Gerald Wise said: "When the council hired Leveling there was an agreement he would serve as a working police chief. Meaning, he would spend time patrolling the city and writing citations."

Wise says because that element of the job was not being fulfilled, it led to his termination.

When Leveling was sworn into the position in November 2018 Your News Leader discovered a history of allegations and misconduct including allegations of racial comments against Hurricane Katrina refugees and wrongful arrests.

Your News Leader asked Wise if misconduct or wrongful actions played a role in the termination as well, he declined to comment.
