Judge sentenced teen to 5 years for assaulting correctional center guards
A judge sentenced the fourth teenager who assaulted correctional guards last year.
Seventeen-year-old Elijah Barse will have to serve five years in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Barse pleaded guilty in August to 10 charges including simple assault on a correctional officer.
Barse, 18-year-old Gavin Johnson, 17-year-old Starson Buckles and 19-year-old Julian Wolf assaulted multiple staff members at the Youth Correctional Center during a riot in January of 2018.
The four teens tried to escape YCC by taking a guard to the ground in a choke hold, punching and kicking others and taking keys from another, according to court documents.
Wolf, Buckles and Johnson were also sentenced to five years.
