A Ward County Jail inmate faces a charge of aggravated assault after investigators say he attacked another inmate in an apparent dispute over ramen noodles.

According to a criminal affidavit filed with the courts, a sheriff’s deputy reported to the jail around 5:15 Saturday morning for an assault.

Investigators say that surveillance footage shows 32-year-old Jesse Jones engaging in a conversation with the inmate late Friday night.

They say Jones then gets into a fighter’s stance and punches the other inmate, though it’s unclear where Jones hit him.

Investigators say Jones leaned over the other inmate and punched him again before leaving the cell and heading to the common area.

The accuser said that Jones broke his jaw in two places during the scrum, making it difficult for him to talk, and he lost consciousness during the fight.

The victim indicated that Jones confronted him over ramen noodles.

Jones made his initial appearance on the charge Monday. He was in custody on unrelated misdemeanor charges.
