Investigation leads to arrests in Rolette County

BELCOURT, N.D. – Two men from Belcourt are in custody on charges they stole a number of items from farm yards in McHenry County and led authorities in Rolette County on a brief pursuit.

According to a post on the Rolette County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, law enforcement received a call early Wednesday morning of a suspicious group of people believed to be stealing items in a rural area east of the town of Rolette.

Officers found the vehicle, and the driver attempted to flee by taking a ditch on a rural county road, but became stuck in snow, and fled on foot before being apprehended.

According to the sheriff’s office, two passengers, a man and a woman, were apprehended as well.

Investigators say they believe the suspects stole a pickup truck, two snowmobiles, and various tools from the farms.

The group abandoned the stolen items, which were recovered by Sheriff’s deputies.

The two men will face a series of charges in the case.
