BISMARCK, N.D. - Incumbent Karen Karls, R-Bismarck, has served in the House since 2007. Democrat Joe Elsberry is running for office for the first time.
Elsberry is running because his son's school was almost closed last year, and believes education should be a top priority. Karls says since the district is the seat of the government, there's a lot of activity, and three issues she sees as the top priorities.
"Infrastructure, a lot of that also education, and we always have to keep in mind that we need to balance the budget,” Karls said.
"I just found out that our legislature is not very good at long term budgeting and I felt that District 35 was in the market for an active and engaged member of the House of Representatives,” Elsberry said.
You'll have the option to vote for two of the four candidates on election day.
