MINOT, N.D. - Continued talks on flood protection efforts for Minot brought Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., to Minot Thursday.

Minot-area officials welcomed the Senator for a round-table meeting at City Hall.

The talks revolved around Hoeven's efforts to secure permanent flood protection for the region. This includes securing a chief's report to advance the fourth phase, which ties together the first three phases. The meeting also included discussion on developing phase 5 and resolving rail issues in that portion of the project.

"Any opportunity that we get to have a face-to-face meeting with him to brief him on what's going on and also get an actual look, get some boots on the ground, in terms of the construction that is going on, some of the challenges we're facing with design. It's good to have the kind of interaction and that type of dialogue" said Ryan Ackerman, Souris River Joint Board administrator.

Hoeven spent Thursday morning in Bismarck discussing trade negotiations at the Bismarck State College Energy Center of Excellence.
